External Wall Cladding ( EIFS) Exterior Insulation Finish Systems and Rendering
More and more Australian builders are using polystyrene because of the following benefits:

- water proof
- good insulator
- strong and flexible
- energy efficient
- cost effective
- quick and easy to install.
Polystyrene cladding is a panel made from (EPS) expanded polystyrene, and extruded rigid cellular polystyrene, both these materials have been modified by the addition of flame retardant additives and are a light weight product. It provides a good foundation for acrylic render finishes.
The panels are square edged and available in the following sizes
2500mm or 5000mm long, 1200mm wide and 50mm, 75mm or 100mm thick.
The panels are available in either Class M grade ( medium density )or Class H grade. ( high density)
When butt joining the panels apply the approved sealant along the all edges of the panels that need to be joined:
- Bostik polyurethane adhesive sealant
When fixing the panels to the stud wall use the recommended fasteners and angles to strengthen and protect corners and give a straight edge to the finished product:
- Bugle head, self tapping Class 3 10 gauge galvanised screws
- 48mm diameter nylon washers.
- Galvanised angles
Impact resistant fibreglass mesh prior to rendering
The mesh is available in rolls of:
- 16ogsm impact resistant fibreglass mesh non adhesive (green )
Thermakraft Watergate Plus fire retardant absorbent breathable house-wrap -This is a coated, specifically designed as a house wrap behind exterior wall cladding . It can be used as a house-wrap on timber and steel framed buildings with absorbent and non absorbent wall cladding's direct fixed to framing eg: Brick veneer, Weatherboard, Fibre Cement , Polystyrene , corrugated iron etc
Foil board Insulation Panel- is more than just insulation, when used externally on framed walls it provides a weatherproof shield that enables internal trades to proceed without waiting for brickwork or cladding completion. This product does not delaminate or breakdown in prolonged wet or windy conditions.( must be installed as per manufacturers specifications and using the recommended fasteners.
